Pipe Runs and Fixings

Fitting of pipes shall not adversely affect the stability of the home and be installed to ensure satisfactory operation.

  • Pipe runs straight and regularly identified.

  • Timber battens fixed to underside of top joist beam at 600mm centres.

  • Pipe clips secured to the timber battens.

  • Ensure clips are used at the very end of each pipe where it penetrates up through the floor to prevent sagging.

  • Crossing pipework should be separated by lagging.

  • Insulation or hair felt should be provided where pipework passes through the web of the joist.

  • All pipework should be supported at junctions.

  • Pipework fixed to external walls with hair felt backing.

  • Copper returns provided for baths, showers and towel radiators.

  • Use a former to ensure pipes are fitted to the correct height and width apart whist making sure they are level.

  • 10mm radiator pipe clipped at 450mm centres fixed on hair felt and metal identification tape.

  • Proprietary shower back plates should be used for shower feed within stud work.

  • Back plates also required where taps are fitted centrally to the bath tubs.

  • Ensure studs are located and spaced correctly to allow for the installation of the back plates.

  • Identification tape must be provided behind all plastic pipework running though the walls and behind plasterboards.

  • Protect the pipework running through metal stud using grommets or insulation.

  • Prevent radiator pipes snagging on blockwork at bay windows.

  • Drill a hole at the corner and feed pipework though a ducting.

  • Identification tape must be provided behind all plastic pipework running though the walls.

  • Finishing provided to back box via face plate once radiator is installed.

  • Support stool used to hold installed radiator whilst decorating is being carried out.

  • Pipework to boiler installed as per manufacturers instruction within the Benchmark book.

  • Boiler condensing pipe must be connected to internal waste pipe to prevent freezing.

  • Use template when installing the boiler pipework to ensure a neat consistent finish.

  • Finish pipework with cover once completed.
