Section 8.1.11

Sockets

Electrical installations shall be provided in accordance with the relevant regulations, codes and standards. The installation shall ensure safe and satisfactory operation, be protected and within the safe zones.

  • Location of sockets, switches and consumer units must comply with Part M of the Building Regulations.

  • Sockets and switches must be positioned between 450mm and 1200mm from finish floor level.

  • With exception of those which are for maintenance (e.g. extract fan isolation switches) and for wall mounted TVs.

  • Consumer units must be set between 1350mm and 1450mm from finish floor to the centre of the switches.

  • Electric cable must be placed within the safe zone.

  • Cables against masonry should be protected within PVC channels.

  • Minimum socket requirements dependent upon the location within the property must be met.

  • Socket back boxes installed level and equally spaced apart allowing for neat plaster and decoration finish.

  • All back boxes to be protected using duct tape or similar prior to dry lining activity.

  • Rooms should be provided with the minimum number of 13A outlets listed in the table.

  • Cooking spaces must have 30A supply which is suitably switched and terminated.

  • Sockets and switches are installed level and flush to the plasterwork

  • Living rooms must contain TV points and ethernet cables (with the exception of HA)
