Roof Coverings

Roof coverings shall be of a suitable quality and durability to protect the building from weather. Coverings shall be adequately fixed to ensure the building is protected in all condition.

  • Tile batten spaced/gauged to ensure minimum overlap of coverings are achieved.

  • Roof marked to ensure slates and tiles are laid straight.

  • Roof is loaded out evenly to prevent point loading on the roof structure.

  • Slates are required to be fixed twice, with one on each side.

  • Fixings should be copper, aluminium or bronze.

  • Galvanised nail should not be used.

  • Toothing of slates is not acceptable.

  • Ensure firestopping is installed between the battens over separating wall.

  • Tiles should be fixed in accordance with site appropriate fixing schedule.

  • This may include nails and tile clips.

  • Tile vents should be provided in the correct location.

  • Multiple vents within a roof elevation should be equally spaced.

  • Ensure roof is clean and completed before scaffold is dismantled.
