Wall Plates

Trussed rafters and traditional cut roof should be supported on timber wall plates. Wall plates are designed to distribute and transmit loads from the roof structure and prevent uplift.

  • Wall plates sized at 100mm x 75mm fully bedded to line and level.

  • Support placed on top of wall plate once bedded to prevent warping of timber.

  • Wall plate should be a minimum of 3m in length or extend over at least 3 trusses.

  • Jointed using half lap joints, including corners.

  • Wall plates holding down straps are to be provided at 2m centres.

  • Have a minimum cross section of 30mm x 2.5mm.

  • Plugged and screwed in accordance with design using 50mm no. 12 wood screw, with the lowest fixing within 150mm of the bottom of the strap.
