Doors – Fixing

Doors shall be correctly located within the opening, with equally spaced margins against the structure and securely fixed.

  • Door and window frames to overlap cavity closer by minimum of 40mm.

  • Door frame straps fixed to block work using plug and screw.

  • Straps should be installed with a fall to the external.

  • Fitted within 150mm of the top and bottom and at a maximum 600mm centres.

  • Cavity closer sealed to assist with preventing air leakage.

  • Door-set placed centrally within the opening.

  • External door-sets should be fixed between 150mm – 250mm from the corners.

  • At maximum centres of 600mm with no less than 4 fixings per jamb.

  • Fixings must be a minimum of 120mm in length and at least 50mm penetration into plugged masonry outer leaf.

  • Openings to internal walls should be constructed around an appropriately sized former to ensure the correct size.

  • Ply to be fixed around the opening and plasterboard cut tightly to the ply.

  • Fill between packers with foam filler – Note – If it is a fire rated door, the gaps should be fully filled.

  • Door frame installed at second fix.

  • Frame fixed directly into ply.

  • Fixed at 600mm centres and 150mm from the top and bottom.

  • Doors fitted level, with a maximum gap against jamb of 4mm for non-fire rated doors.

  • A minimum 10mm gap between the finished floor and door.

  • Ensure hinges and door handles are level and equal to both sides on double doors.
