Section 6.5.1
Headroom and Width
Stairs shall ensure adequate provision headroom and unobstructed width. Stairs should have a minimum 2m clear headroom over the entire length and landing as measured vertically from the pitch line.
A clear 2m head room on the stairs is dictated by the position of the trimming joists.
Check the design and installation of the trimmer during installation to ensure that there will be sufficient room.
Pitch lines are taken from the line touching the nosing (dotted).
2m clear head room is required throughout the entire length and width of the staircase and the landings.
Once staircase has been installed, check clear head room with the use of a level from the bulkhead to the pitch line.
A clear headroom of 2m should be provided with the allowance of an additional 20mm to allow for plasterboard.
