Restraint Straps

Restraint straps suitable for taking tensile forces are required to tie walls and upper floors together. They are required to be installed as the superstructure progress.

  • Restraint straps need to be supported on noggins and extended over 3 joists.

  • The primary noggin is required to be tightly fitted between the joist and masonry.

  • Fixed as per the manufacturers instructions.

  • Spaced at a maximum of 2m centres.

  • Restraint straps are fitted at maximum spacing of 2m or as designed.

  • Residual strap should be bent over the last joist to prevent vibration.

  • Restraint straps need to bear on to the centre of block.

  • When blockwork is reset; ensure block fits correctly to the restraint strap.

  • Restraint strap must not be distorted or the block cut or damaged to accommodate the strap.
