Restraint Straps
Restraint straps suitable for taking tensile forces are required to tie walls and upper floors together. They are required to be installed as the superstructure progress.
Restraint straps need to be supported on noggins and extended over 3 joists.
The primary noggin is required to be tightly fitted between the joist and masonry.
Fixed as per the manufacturers instructions.
Spaced at a maximum of 2m centres.
Restraint straps are fitted at maximum spacing of 2m or as designed.
Residual strap should be bent over the last joist to prevent vibration.
Restraint straps need to bear on to the centre of block.
When blockwork is reset; ensure block fits correctly to the restraint strap.
Restraint strap must not be distorted or the block cut or damaged to accommodate the strap.
