Section 6.3.8
Sound Insulation
Separating walls and floors and rooms which contain a WC, shall be constructed and insulated with materials of suitable thickness and density to provide adequate resistance to the transmission of sound.
Party wall cavity construction to consist of 2 block courses with 100mm cavity.
Cavity must extend a minimum of 450mm below DPC.
Fully bedded joints with a flush pointed finish to both sides of the blockwork.
Ties must be set at 900mm horizontally and 450mm vertically.
Tie type A must be used on separating walls.
Medium dense blocks should be used in the party wall construction.
Use tie at 225mm vertical centres to tie in with thermal block used on the external walls.
Use ARC party wall cavity closer at the party wall junction.
Party wall cavity should be free of mortar droppings.
Party wall must extend 450mm above the ceiling line in the loft space.
Cavity must be closed off at the top of the party wall.
Joists built in solid at the party wall.
Joists must not project into the cavity.
Blocks to be fitted to the end of the joists.
Insulation is required between rooms that include a WC and habitable rooms.
Except in the bedroom where the WC is in the ensuite attached to the habitable room.
25mm of mineral wool between the studs and 1 layer of 12.5mm plasterboard is required.
Alternatively, 2 layers of 12.5mm plasterboard and no insulation.
Isorubber sound protection layer placed on top of the concrete floor planks.
Isorubber flanking strip placed around perimeter and internal walls.
Minimum 50mm overlap required to isorubber with laps tapped.
Isorubber flanking strip must be trapped between the concreted floor and the skirting board.
Flanking strip must be turned down under the skirting on external walls.
