Non-Load Bearing Walls

Non-loading bearing walls and partitions shall be securely fixed to main structure and provide adequate strength and support. Specific attention is required to kitchens, utility rooms, tiled areas and cylinder cupboards.

  • Double timber sole plate positioned below metal stud partition to provide a solid fixing for the skirting boards.

  • DPC laid between concrete slab and timber sole plate.

  • Additional noggins provided where partitions run parallel with joists.

  • Noggin set at maximum 600mm centres.

  • Metal stud or timber can be used.

  • Plasterboard fixed to the stud and the floor track via crimp.

  • Do not fix through stud and the floor track with the same screw when applying plasterboard.

  • 300mm return back required when installing fire doors.

  • Around tiled areas such as bathrooms and kitchen areas, studs should be placed at 400mm maximum centres.

  • Timber pattress to allow for radiator installation.

  • Pattress to be oversized to allow for any repositioning required later in the build.

  • Steel Angle fixed to web of stud, and plywood rebated to allow flush finish.

  • Provide pattress for traditional socket back boxes or use proprietary dry lining back boxes.

  • 18mm ply pattress accurately placed to take high level kitchen units.
