Movement Joints

Movement joints are provided to prevent cracking during thermal movement. They should be provided as per Bloor Homes approved design.

  • Location of movement joint as per design.

  • Compressible infill used with tear strip faced toward external wall to allow for removal for sealant.

  • Ties located within 225mm both sides of the movement joint and every block course.

  • Alternatively, slip ties can be used.

  • Movement joints typically start at DPC level.

  • Extends through all external masonry above this level.

  • Between 10mm and 16mm wide joint required.

  • Movement joint is required to be straight and consistent throughout.

  • Movement joints should be hidden, where possible.

  • Good practice to colour match mastic with masonary.

  • Movement joints to follow through tile creasing courses on garden walls and parapet walls.

  • Hi load/bond DPC on coping below tile creasing.

  • Movement joints to follow through stone coin and feature details.
