Movement Joints
Movement joints are provided to prevent cracking during thermal movement. They should be provided as per Bloor Homes approved design.
Location of movement joint as per design.
Compressible infill used with tear strip faced toward external wall to allow for removal for sealant.
Ties located within 225mm both sides of the movement joint and every block course.
Alternatively, slip ties can be used.
Movement joints typically start at DPC level.
Extends through all external masonry above this level.
Between 10mm and 16mm wide joint required.
Movement joint is required to be straight and consistent throughout.
Movement joints should be hidden, where possible.
Good practice to colour match mastic with masonary.
Movement joints to follow through tile creasing courses on garden walls and parapet walls.
Hi load/bond DPC on coping below tile creasing.
