Section 6.1.11

Fire Stopping

External cavity walls shall adequately resist the passage of fire. Cavity barriers must be provided where a cavity abuts compartment walls and floors, around opening and to close off open cavities to prevent a route for fire spread.

  • Cavity barriers at party wall junctions start below DPC .

  • Place the cavity barrier within the sub structure starting at the concrete cavity fill.

  • Arc T-junction cavity barrier, tightly fitted.

  • Ensure the cavity barrier is installed continuously and to the manufacturer’s installation guide.

  • Masonry block work extended 450mm above the ceiling line. Cavity barrier installed before the installation of the spandrel panel.

  • When using partial fill insulation; the insulation board should terminate 75mm – 100mm below the soffit level.

  • Install cavity barrier between the block and the last brick course.

  • Ensure there are no gaps between the cavity barriers.

  • Continue insulation above the cavity barrier to the top of the wall plate.
