Section 5.2.7

Floor Finish

Ground floor slabs shall be of adequate strength, durability, use concrete mix and reinforced as per the design to support the floor loads safely and resist chemical and frost action.

  • With cast in-situ suspended floor slabs, use robust shuttering to form the cavity once the concrete is cast.

  • Reinforcement must be installed as per the design and in the correct orientation i.e. with 100mm gaps to the shortest distance.

  • Lapping of the reinforcement bars must lapped as indicated within the design.

  • Concrete coverage to the reinforcement around the edges should be 33mm as stated in the design.

  • Once concrete is poured, a power floated finish is required to achieve a smooth even finish.

  • External temperatures will determine how many times the slab will need to be power floated. Consult concrete manufacturer for further guidance.

  • Use a hand floated finish around the edges to gain a consistent finish to the floor slab.

  • Avoid thermal bridging issues by scraping the concrete from the top of the perimeter insulation.

  • After removing shuttering on a cast in-situ suspended floor, ensure the cavity is clean and the DPM is returned at least 100mm to link in with the DPC.
