Section 5.2.4

Thermal Insulation

Ground floor and walls below DPC shall be thermally insulated to comply with Building regulations and be suitable for the intended use. Installation of thermal insulation shall ensure that the full thermal performance of the floor is achieved.

  • Ensure the ground floor structure is fully prepared prior to the installation of the thermal insulation, including blinding and compaction.

  • Ensure drainage entry points are accurately set out.

  • Block and beam floor must be fully grouted before the external walls commence.

  • Insulation should be laid to staggered joints.

  • Penetrations through the insulation such as drainage should be neatly cut with any gaps filled with insulation.

  • 25mm perimeter insulation provided to block and beam floors.

  • Place perimeter insulation in first and trap in place with floor insulation to avoid the movement of the perimeter insulation.

  • Use insulation board to form thresholds and support concrete.

  • Do not use masonry or concrete as this will act as a thermal bridge.

  • Completed threshold detail showing insulation board used as a former and 25mm perimeter insulation in place.
