Section 5.2.3

Beam Bearings

Bearing of the beams on to substructure wall is a critical part of the structural integrity of the construction of the ground floors. Particular attention is required to internal walls, party walls and forming bays for sound penetration and potential fire spread.

  • Beams should bear on to substructure walls by no less than 90mm.

  • Beams should not project into the cavity.

  • At internal walls, beam ends should not butt together unless it is in the design.

  • Beams bearing onto a party wall should not extend into the cavity.

  • Concrete cavity fill within party wall should be to a depth of 450mm below DPC.

  • Bay windows should be formed as per the design.

  • Beams should not project into the cavity.
