Section 5.2.2

Beam Infill and Penetration Through

The infill used between the beams will consist of concrete blocks. They will not only have an impact over the quality of the ground floor construction, this is where air leakage first impacts the construction process.

  • Cut ends of the blocks to adjacent walls are required to be bedded on to the substructure.

  • Service penetrations through the block and beam need to be neatly cut around and tightly fitted in order to make the grouting up easier.

  • Position of the pipe work is required to be checked before grouting, to ensure no movement of the pipe work during construction.

  • A smooth and even finish of cementitious grout should be applied to the block and beam to provide an even surface and prevent air gaps.
