Section 5.2.1
Suspended Floor Beams
Suspended ground floors hold a critical function within a property. Floor systems designs must be followed at all times. Regular checks on the quality of materials are paramount to its success.
Precast concrete beams delivered to site ideally should be installed on the same day.
If this is not possible, beams should be stored on prepared ground on skids positioned vertically in alignment and in an area where they will not get damaged.
Beams should safely lifted onto the substructure.
Beams are required to be placed on a DPC.
Manually set out the beams ensuring the minimum required bearing of 90mm is achieved on substructure walls.
Use the infill blocks to gauge locations of the beams.
Beams set out to avoid pipework rest bends.
Pipe positions should be checked after the blocks are placed to ensure they have not moved position.
Checks should take place before grouting of the block and beam.
