Section 4.2.2

Protection of Trees

A Tree Preservation Order (TPO) is an order made by a local planning authority in England to protect specific trees, groups of trees or woodlands in the interests of amenity. Trees, hedgerows and woodlands covered by TPO’s need to be protected from construction activity.

  • Information of the tree found on site can be found in the arboricultural assessment.

  • Use the tree retention plan to locate trees that are to be protected.

  • Consider how these trees will impact on foundation depths and effect the program of works.

  • Use the tables provided to determine which trees need to be protected and which trees are to be removed.

  • Barriers should be placed around the protected trees to a minimum 1.5m high.

  • The barrier should have a distance away from the tree that is no less than 12 x the diameter of the trunk.

  • E.g. 750mm trunk = 9m radius from the tree.
