Woodstock Wolverine Band Scholarships

At any given time, members of the band community are dealing with different family and/or economic situations and are struggling to make ends meet. As a result of these financial hardships, there are always a few families that cannot meet the full financial burden of band membership. In order to address this issue, the Woodstock Wolverines Band Boosters, Inc. created the Scholarship Fund. This fund will specifically address those situations where members cannot meet the full financial obligation of band membership. We ask that our fellow band families, alumni and friends of the band consider donating any amount possible to make the rewards of the Woodstock Wolverine Marching Band membership available to all.

The Scholarship Fund will operate as follows:

Confidentiality: The family members awarded full or partial scholarships will be kept confidential. The Director of Bands, WWBB President and Treasurers and the Scholarship Committee will be the only members to review the applications and award scholarships. It must be recognized that financial hardships are also emotional hardships. Individuals in this situation are assured that their plight is not public knowledge.

Eligibility: In order to be eligible for a scholarship, you must complete and submit the attached application form by the deadline. Students who are in a band class as well as marching band /color guard / winter guard are eligible for a scholarship. In order to be eligible, students must be current with their band fees and not have any outstanding debt owed to the program. Scholarship awards will not exceed seasonal program dues. Any optional items will be the responsibility student.

Qualifications: Those requesting a scholarship will provide the attached application by the deadline by emailing your application to wwbbgatreasurer@gmail.com The scholarship committee will meet and review all applications. All applicants will be notified via e-mail as to whether or not they have been awarded a scholarship. Again, this notification is confidential and will not be announced to the general membership.

Disqualifying Events / Scholarship Forfeiture: The following will result in students being disqualified from applying for future scholarship funds or forfeiture of an award:

  • The student has previously prematurely left a program for which scholarship funds were awarded

  • The student has been found to have provided false or misleading information in applying or claiming an award

  • The student has violated CCSD, WHS or WHS Band standards as defined by the CCSD code of conduct or WHS Band handbook

  • In the case of a student being awarded a scholarship who then prematurely leaves the program, all scholarship funds awarded are required to be repaid to the program

  • Forfeiture of scholarship funds is at the discretion of the WWBB Scholarship Committee, the Band Director, and school administration for that program year.

  • Forfeiture of scholarship funds may occur as a consequence of a first or subsequent offense – depending upon the nature and severity of the offense.

  • The period of scholarship ineligibility may range from one season to the duration of the student’s enrollment.

Scholarship Funding: It is the intention of the scholarship committee for the Fund to be a self-supporting fund. Meaning it is to be 100% supported by donations from the community, current or alumni band membership and/ or fundraising. The following methods of donation will be available:

*Anonymous donation: Any individuals who choose to donate to the fund may do so anonymously.

*Targeted donation: Any individuals, through their own means, who know of a particular student in need can make a targeted donation to that particular student. Targeted donations are not subject to the review of the Executive Board and scholarship committee. They can be anonymous or public donations depending on the wishes of the donor. (Note: Targeted donations are NOT tax deductible)

*Fundraising donation: Individuals can offer and donate their student account funds earned during a fundraiser as a donation to the scholarship fund.

*Senior Account Balances: In the past when a senior graduates, any funds remaining in their student ledger would be applied to the general fund. The Executive Committee has unanimously approved that going forward senior student ledger funds will be applied to the scholarship fund.

Tax Implications: All non-targeted donations to the WWBB Scholarship Fund are tax deductible. You may request a confirmation of this donation from the Treasurers if you require it for tax purposes.

How to donate: Please make checks out to WWBB and be sure to indicate Scholarship Fund on the memo line. You may also round up your band fee payment. If this is a targeted donation, please include a note indicating who the student is you are targeting your donation.
