twyla mae mooney

Twyla is an established makeup artist and costume designer in Los Angeles who works in a niche of cosplayers, drag queens, and other performers. Though she has spent the last five years working in Hollywood, she was born and raised in a trailer park in the outskirts of the small town of Asheboro, North Carolina. An only child, her mother died when she was quite young and she was left with her dad and an extended family of mostly men. She did, however, connect with her grandma, who was a classic movie star in the 1940s.

Twyla's grandmother taught her everything there was about Hollywood and inspired her to enter a career in the beauty industry. After high school, Twyla went to junior college and got her degree in cosmetology, working at a small salon in Asheboro for much of her early twenties. She began posting her artwork on social media and also opened an online shop where she sold handmade jewelry and other accessories, both of which gained her a small following online. Once her grandmother died, she decided to leave North Carolina in pursuit of a career in California, wanting to follow in her grandmother's footsteps.

Personality-wise, Twyla is a fast learner and even faster at thinking on her feet. She has been guilty of rambling and at times, lets her energy get the best of her; her bubbly personality can be a bit overwhelming and sometimes even annoying for other people. It comes from being from a small town where everyone is hospitable and certainly meddlesome. Twyla loves exercising her creativity and has never been one to shy away from colors in her work, which is why she works in such fun and imaginative niches.
