CELEBRATION PREPARATIONS
It’s almost inevitable that in 2066 there’ll be extensive festivities to mark the One Thousand Anniversary of the Battle of Hastings which was the last time that our country was conquered.
I recall nothing about the 900th anniversary of that battle's celebration in 1966 apart from my acquisition of an issue of Bayeux Tapestry themed postage stamps. I was eight years old, at the time. And if I’m still alive and capable of remembering my age in 2066, it’s most unlikely that I’ll be doing much vigorous dancing around any tables at a street party.
It seems these musings could be a manifestation of something called FOMO [the fear of missing out] which has lead me to realise that now cannot be too soon for us to start planning some of those parties (and any other kind of festivity) and begin enjoying as much of their preparation as possible with our grandchildren and their friends.
Apparently, preparations for events in 2027/2028 are already being made in France to celebrate the 1000th Anniversary of The Birth of William the Conqueror. So, clearly, we’re not the only ones thinking that far ahead.
