Our Story
Our Story
The Torch began in December of 2023 as a call of God to hold a worship and teaching event in the heart of University District, Seattle. In two short weeks between His call and the event, God built up a team of young college students, many of them freshmen, who were on fire for God.
Those weeks were filled with miracle after miracle – things that can only be explained by the existence of an almighty and loving God. Through prayer to Him, we chose four speakers, three to preach and one to share his testimony. Each of them had been preparing messages for months without knowing who they were for – God had been preparing them for what He wanted to do with this event. Through the power of God, use of our venue was given for free by the University of Washington, although it is normally rented out for a large fee. These are just a couple of examples of the countless ways God worked to allow our first event to happen.
We decided to call this movement of God “The Torch” as a symbol of our prayer for the city of Seattle, that the light of Christ in our hearts would shine into the darkness found there. As represented by candlelight services, we want to share the fire of the Gospel to everyone we meet through the multitude of gifts given to us by God.
When the day finally came, December 3rd, the presence of God was there and working powerfully. People from all around heard worship music echoing through the streets of University District and came to listen or join in. Afterward, we heard countless stories of how God’s words through our speakers impacted those listening, bringing hope and showing His love. Our team left the event in awe of the power and wonder of our God, and infinitely thankful for the opportunity to serve Him in starting the Torch.
Since then, we have held two more major events, both at Gas Works Park in Seattle, just two miles from our original venue. Our team has grown to over thirty people serving in worship, hospitality, prayer, speaking, and many more positions suited to their unique gifts given by God. At our last event in October of 2024, we were able to feed everyone who came, opening our ministry to more opportunities to share the Gospel around meals. Almost 200 people came to our last event, and many more talked to our greeting team while walking through the park. In everything we do, and in every event we will hold in the future, we seek to glorify God and seek to find His will and plan for the Torch. All glory to God!
