EXQUISITE ANIMALUS

Our physical world provides a rigid concept of "what is animal". Exquisite Animalus allows for fantastical reinterpretation and celebration of earth’s gorgeous biodiversity. It also opens a discussion of human’s role within the animal kingdom. Interacting with Exquisite Animalus offers the participant a God-like ability to design their own creature. 

Exquisite Animalus is a colorful, revolving 30-foot tall layer cake of illustrated animal charm and whimsy. The structure consists of 4 aluminum frames mounted on a steel structure. Custom casters make each layer click into place yet spin independently by human power. Steel handles on the 8 outer corners of each layer allow participants to rotate each octagon. Upper layers have ropes attached to the handles to help each layer move, and the lowest are within a child's reach. Just grab a banana at the end and work with your neighbors to make it spin! 

The 32 different façade panels are crafted of wood and aluminum sheets, covered with hand-drawn and vinyl-printed artwork. Each panel has a word and when the words vertically align to form a hidden message, music and lights ensue. Each facade includes fun animal facts to keep the visitor engaged and learn something while playing with the piece. Interaction offers participants the opportunity to rediscover their love for animals again. 

 The sound design (crickets=still, animal sounds=active, jackpot=puzzle solved) accompanies the piece whether in motion or still. 

The piece includes different synchronized lighting functions from dusk until dawn that are a beacon from afar. The lighting becomes extra-activated when the puzzle is solved.

Exquisite Animalus comes packed in two 20 ft containers, all labeled and arranged for simple transport and assembly. It is currently stored in Reno, Nevada.
