About us

The Smyrnan yearbook at New Smyrna Beach High School is a student-led publication with a clear mission: to document the school year and create a meaningful time capsule for both the school and the greater New Smyrna Beach community. Comprised of fewer than 30 dedicated students, the staff is primarily made up of juniors and seniors who bring energy, creativity, and commitment to the production process. These students meet during afternoon class periods but frequently extend their responsibilities beyond the classroom. They attend after-school sporting events, cover club meetings during lunch, and conduct interviews and photo sessions to ensure all aspects of student life are represented. Their hard work culminates in a comprehensive, high-quality yearbook that tells the story of the school year from the students’ perspective.

The program is advised by Mrs. Erica Negedly, who is now in her fifth year leading the high school yearbook and previously spent four years advising the middle school publication before transitioning to New Smyrna Beach High School. Her years of experience have helped shape the yearbook into a professional, student-driven endeavor that emphasizes storytelling, design, and journalistic integrity. The Smyrnan is proudly published in partnership with Walsworth Publishing, whose support helps the staff bring their creative vision to life through professional printing, layout tools, and publishing guidance. Together, the students and advisor work to produce a lasting keepsake that reflects the heart and heritage of NSBHS each year.
