Juniper, Rocky Mountain
The Rocky Mountain juniper, also known as the western red cedar, is a hardy, evergreen shrub or small tree that can grow up to 20-30 feet (6-9 meters) tall with a spread of 6-10 feet (2-3 meters). It has a conical to columnar shape and typically grows at a slow to moderate rate. The foliage is blue-green or gray-green in color and may turn a purplish hue in the winter months. Rocky Mountain junipers are drought tolerant and can adapt to a wide range of soil types. They are often used in landscaping as ornamental trees or as windbreaks in areas with harsh climates.
