a journey for change we desperaretly need

On Tues. Nov. 2 VOTE in Protest, write-in "The Land for Mayor"

Hi, I'm Gabriela Campos.

I am here before you as a fellow human who happens to be unafraid to stand for others, our children and our Earth.
I carry my grandfather's legacy of putting everything personal on the line, because it's right generationally. I walk daily with my grandmother's teaching of being at peace, because my heart is at peace with God.
As a small child in Peru, I remember tackling the boy next door, because he wouldn't stop squashing the caterpillars. I had to save them. We had monarchs in our yard. He called me green-blood for months, I pretended not to care. I can giggle about it now, but pf course it bothered me, worse - I was so heartbroken that anyone would think it was ok to kill something, that wasn't causing any harm. As I grew up, I learned to keep my hands to myself, but the drive to protect the innocent, to protect our future has only intensified.
Today, we face catastrophic consequences because the generations before us forgot the lessons of our ancestors, and we have not cared for The Land. We have not been stewards of the Earth, we have extracted and extracted - and now our children will continue to pay the price if we don't act decisively.
I was taught to value truth and walk with honor. I have always been a little quirky, and very curious - allowing me to see creative solutions to difficult situations. I have been blessed to experience many cultures. I know what it's like to have priviledge; suddenly lose it all, and know hunger.
I have always deeply loved humanity, and our Earth. The Earth provides us with everything we need, yet we haven't cared fo r Our Mother. In the very begining of my activism I saw first hand how the lack of regard for Our Mother translated to violence. Over two decades later, the solution is the same, it is steeped in Indigenous Wisdom that sees everything as alive, with great value to the interconnectedness of each other and everything in the web we call life.
We have to start from the Ground UP, with the Land. We are mud, and we end in dust - what we do in between to ensure our children's children can be here is our collectively responsability. It is time to take our voice, and our power back. It is urgent that we become Love in Action
