"Teacher collaboration happens when educators work together to create innovative lesson plans, discuss concerns about student achievement or behavior, determine student progress and challenges, and offer collegial support and encouragement in a structure environment. Many aspects and forms of collaboration, both formal and informal, can contribute to student success and decrease teacher burnout."
- "The Importance of Teacher Collaboration"
Collaboration among teachers can help identify practices that consistently help all students across the board. It can also provide a safe environment in which teachers can build healthy relationships with other teachers and work towards a common goal of expectations in a school system. This can also ensure that everyone's voice is heard and respected in professional settings, meetings, and the classroom.

Methods for Collaboration
Station Teaching: Allows teachers to have small groups while each teacher provides direct instruction or concept review
Parallel Teaching: Teaching half the class at a time, teachers simultaneously introduce mini lessons
Alternate Teaching: Students that are functioning at grade level meet with one teacher for basic lesson. The collaborating teacher teaches the same lesson but more in depth and modified to students who need additional support
Team Teaching: One teacher will be the "primary teacher" teaching the lesson while the collaborating teacher answers individual questions and informally assesses students
At the end of each collaborating session, teachers will meet to discuss how effective their method went and students' progresses.
When teachers meet with each other regularly they begin to form bonds of communication and trust, which can lead to being able to accept feedback and new ideas
When sharing lesson plans and concepts, teachers can gain ideas from other teachers and implement them in their own classrooms
Teachers who collaborate with each other share the common workload of planning and assessing so they can support and encourage each other
When general education and special education teachers collaborate, they can better understand how to provide services to all students with various needs.
"The experience —particularly working with other professionals — made me turn inside-out and think about things from a new perspective. Learning and working with others made me dig deeper and explore who I was as a learner and a teacher. Equally important, it made me explore who my kids could be as learners. In our educational culture today, it's extremely important to join professional learning communities and pursue professional learning opportunities to ensure ongoing growth for our students and for ourselves."
-Sabrina Gates: Benefits of Collaboration | NEA
Teachers spend a lot of their time preparing for activities and assignments, along with actually implementing the plans in the classroom. Meaning teacher's schedules are filled up. Collaborating with colleagues allows teachers to find lessons and gain guidance from those in the same career. Teachers can bounce ideas off of each other to lessen the stress of coming up with their ideas from scratch.
Teachers are also able to focus on individuals more with more help.
"High-quality collaboration in general and about assessment in particular among teachers is associated with increases in their students’ achievement, their performance, and their peers’ students’ achievement."
