Vale: Hi Danny! It's so lovely to meet you.
Danny: It's nice to meet you too, Ms. Vale!
Vale: You can call me Vicki, Danny. No need to be so formal! We're all friends here.
Danny: Right, sorry, sorry. This is my first time doing a fancy tv interview like this so I'm kind of nervous.
Vale: Aw, don't be nervous, Danny! If it helps just think of it like we're two friends catching up over coffee. There's no right or wrong way to do an interview. You just have to be yourself.
Danny: Right, thanks, Vicki.
Vale: Of course! Now, this actually leads me to my first question. How are you doing, Danny? This past week seems to have been pretty eventful!
Danny: I'm doing okay. Things still feel kind of unreal.
Vale: Unreal?
Danny: Yeah, like, everything feels like I'm dreaming. Like one wrong move and I'll wake back up in my old room getting ready for another day of school. I mean, I'm sure I'm not the only kid who dreamed of their bio parent being someone famous. I just never thought that my bio dad would be Bruce Wayne.
Vale: So you didn't know that Bruce Wayne was your father?
Danny: No, not at all.
Vale: How did you find out that you were his son, then?
Danny: It's kind of a long story.
Vale: Well, fortunately we've got time!
Danny: Right. So, Damian and I were separated when we were 8. At the time, our mom had warned me not to get into contact with Damian. I don't think she said the same thing to Dami because he'd been trying to find me since we got separated. Anyways, I spent most of those years trying my best to forget about Damian because Mother had said if I tried to contact him then she would hurt him.
Vale: That sounds horrible!
Danny: I mean, our mother wasn't the greatest person. She wanted the best for us but didn't really know how to give us that. I think that's why she gave me up in the first place.
Vale: So you just never tried to reach out again?
Danny: Well, no. It just took years. I first found out that Damian wasn't with our mom anymore on Twitter actually.
Vale: Really?
Danny: Yeah! So my friend, Sam, is a huge environmentalist and animal rights activist. Really, she's just a big activist in general. So we had this rare purple back gorilla in our zoo. Her name's Delilah, by the way, and she's a sweetheart. So back in our freshman year, Delilah got transferred from the Amity Park zoo to the Gotham City zoo so she could meet the only other purple back gorilla in existence and so they could mate and repopulate the species. Sam keeps tabs on Delilah because we all got attached. We were actually the ones to discover she was a girl in the first place.
Vale: You were! That's an amazing scientific discovery--people in Gotham were talking about our Ozzie finally getting himself a girlfriend for weeks! How on earth did you discover that?
Danny: Ah, that's a story for a different time. I'm sorry, I got sidetracked.
Vale: No worries, this just means we have an excuse to bring you back for another interview. Now, you've been keeping up with Delilah?
Danny: Yeah, Sam is following like every single zoo account she can on Twitter. So, she shows us this photo that the Gotham City zoo posted of Delilah's new baby. It was a cute as fuck--oh shit, sorry can I curse? Is that allowed?
Vale: *Laughing* yes, you can curse here. I'm not going to tell on you to your dad.
Danny: Thanks. So we have this cute as fuck gorilla baby and Sam's going on about how she's so jealous because the youngest Wayne kid got to hold the baby and help feed it, and so she shows me and Tucker--our other friend--and I felt like my heart fucking dropped.
Vale: So you recognized him right away?
Danny: Oh yeah, I mean sure we were apart for 7 years but we're still twins. It's hard not to see a picture of somebody who looks almost exactly like you with the name of your twin and not connect the dots.
Vale: I assume you're identical twins then?
Danny: Technically we're fraternal, but we look so much alike that people always assume we're identical.
Vale: Then did your friends also notice the similarities?
Danny: Not right away. I mean, it's like people looking at Clark Kent and Superman. Obviously Clark Kent isn't Superman. Sure, you've never seen them in the same room, but you know Clark Kent! He's the famous reporter and bumbling husband of much more competent Lois Lane! There's no way he could be Superman or even related to the guy despite the visual similarities. My friends knew me as me, Danny. Sure, they knew I was adopted but the idea that I was Damian Wayne's twin was so out of the realm of possibility, it never would have crossed their minds.
Vale: Did you reach out to Damian after seeing the picture?
Danny: I did! I sent him a message on Twitter and prayed that he wouldn't think I was faking for attention or lying or anything. I figured if he got adopted by Bruce Wayne then Mother wouldn't be able to hurt him anymore. It took a couple messages and a video call, but we managed to reconnect and start messaging each other. That's how I figured out Bruce is our biological dad.
Vale: How did you feel, finding out that Bruce Wayne is your dad?
Danny: I mean, I didn't really acknowledge it at first. I was so happy to finally have Dami back in my life, I was afraid that if I acknowledged anything other than him being willing to talk to me that it would all just go away. I'm still processing the fact that Bruce is my bio dad. Like, there's still days where I look at him and I'm just like, "Oh my Ancients, that's Mr. Bruce Wayne, billionaire and famous person! What's he doing in my house?" Then I remember that this is my life now. I get to live in the Wayne Manor with my twin brother.
Vale: It feels a bit like a dream, doesn't it?
Danny: Yeah! Yeah, exactly.
Vale: Well, I can definitely assure you that this is real. You're officially part of Gotham's VIPs.
Danny: Oh Ancients that's a terrifying thought.
Vale: Is it? A lot of kids your age would kill to be in your position.
Danny: Sure, I get that. I mean, it's just weird to suddenly be considered important just because my bio dad is Bruce Wayne. Like, it's not like I did something amazing or have some super special talent or even that I have some especially cool super power. I'm not special. I'm just... Danny.
Vale: Well, from what I've heard so far 'just Danny' sounds like a pretty special person to me.
Danny: You're just flattering me.
Vale: No, really! I mean what 15 year old can say they helped discover that one of the last two purple back gorillas was a female! It seems to me you've got a lot of talents hiding under that boy-next-door persona you're trying to pull off here.
Danny: Ah, geeze...
Vale: Are you blushing? Oh you're just adorable!
Danny: Can we go back to talking about Bruce?
Vale: Of course. So after you reunited with your brother, it seemed that things quickly shifted to Bruce gaining custody over you. Can you walk me through what that was like?
Danny: Sure. My adoptive parents weren't... the safest to be around. They had a lab in the basement that had all kinds of weapons and they'd get so wrapped up in their work that they'd forget to feed us. I have an older sister--Jazz. She basically raised me from the time my parents adopted me till now. She's 18 so she doesn't have to worry about custody or anything. Anyways, she's been away at a summer internship program so I was left alone with our parents. They got... worse. I just... Do I have to talk about it?
Vale: Of course not. If you want to skip to a different question or a different subject or even to just a little further in the story we can absolutely do that.
Danny: Cool, thanks. So anyways it wasn't safe with my adoptive parents anymore. Damian was already begging me to visit so one day I got a one-way ticket on a Greyhound to Gotham and just showed up at his doorstep. Bruce was pretty shocked. Damian apparently forgot to tell him I was coming. After talking with Jazz we decided that having Bruce fight for custody was the best plan moving forward. So we did and here I am! The Judge said no take-backs so Bruce is stuck with me.
Vale: *Chuckling* well he certainly seems happy about it all things considered. His social media has been nothing but pictures of you and the rest of his kids since he got the official verdict.
Danny: Ah, yeah. It's things like that that remind me that even under all of the billionaire swagger Bruce really is just a dorky dad.
Vale: Moving on to our last question here, how have you been settling into Gotham, Danny?
Danny: I think I'm settling in okay. Dami's made things a hell of a lot easier. I don't think I'd feel nearly as comfortable walking around Gotham if I didn't have him with me. The others have also been really nice. Getting to know all of Bruce's kids has been really cool, and they've made sure that I feel welcome as a part of the family.
Vale: That's so sweet. Well unfortunately that's all the time we have for today. Thank you so much for speaking with me, Danny!
Danny: Thank you so much for having me!
Vale: I truly hope we'll be able to get you back on the show for another interview. In the mean time, I'm Vicki Vale and join us later for the newest Killer Croc update. Thanks again!
