Unlike English nouns, Latin nouns belong to noun families called declensions. Each declension has a special set of endings that determine how that noun is functioning in the sentence.

The city of Pompeii was a mini Rome located in the Campania region (south of Rome). It is most famous for it's destruction in August of 79 AD and the preservation of the ruins due to volcanic ash.
