While updates have been somewhat slow in coming, the latest news regarding the upcoming season is that production for Evil season 4 has officially wrapped. After months of delays due to the Hollywood strikes, Evil season 4 has finally gotten a positive update, and it comes directly from series star Katja Herbers who made the announcement on her Instagram account. Though a release date hasn't been established yet, it will likely come soon.

Though Evil season 4 was delayed for quite some time by the Hollywood strikes, it's clear that production has gotten back underway and wrapped in mid-December 2023. This is good news for fans of the long-awaited fourth season, though no official release date has been established. Realistically speaking, the earliest viewers could expect more episodes of Evil will be in the latter half of 2024.

Within minutes of its renewal, all the main Evil season 4 cast members announced their involvement in the upcoming installment via social media. This means that Mike Colter will return as David Acosta and he will be joined by Katja Herbers as Dr. Kristen Bouchard.

I found this segment surprising, especially in seeing how Marco was sad about Star going away in the first episode of season 3, but finding out here, that he still retained his pair of dimensional scissors from last season (I thought maybe Star had them with her)! Given how he can easily travel to Mewni, that show of emotional depression seems rather out-of-place now (to me, at least).

There are some things in life you just can't unsee, and one of those things is a woman pregnant with a possessed fetus receiving Communion and then promptly gushing blood out of her vagina all over a church floor. So, thanks for that parting gift, Evil Season 1! Being forever changed by the idea of possessed fetuses aside, the finale of Evil is everything you could want to close out the season: It is freaky as hell, it cleverly ties together so many elements of the entire season, it has Mike Colter quoting Shakespeare in it, and it opens up some truly insane avenues for Season 2 to head down. Seriously, that final moment is shocking and a game-changer and I am unwell. I'm also already counting down to Evil's return. That's as pretty close to perfect as a season finale can get.

It turns out to be a wise choice for Kristen to head out, because some truly evil things are going down at her house. While the girls are asleep, someone comes to the door. When he can't get in, he rings the doorbell repeatedly, and it's Lexis (OF COURSE) who wakes up and goes downstairs to see who it is. Well, guys, it's the hairy, horned Beast Therapist here to take Lexis "to the next level." This is the part in the recap when I can be silent no longer: WHAT THE F--- MATILDA YOU HAD ONE JOB. Of course we never actually see Matilda; how could she ever show her face here? Just never trust a Matilda to protect your kids from demons. That's the lesson here.

There's one more connection to RSM Fertility to make, and guys, it is the least fun. The gang all reconvenes at the hospital after Eleanor's water breaks before the exorcism is complete. Two disconcerting things happen, I mean, aside from the birth of a devil. First, Ben notices blood on Kristen's leg and she is very cagey about the whole thing. Second, when the guys tell Kristen about what they discovered about RSM Fertility, she might vomit. She used RSM Fertility for one of her pregnancies -- that's how she had Lexis. OK, Recap Welfare Check: Is everyone OK or did your brain explode? Because, I hate to say it but, there's one more piece of information you need to know before we close out the season. Ready?

It's all very confusing... until we return to the Bouchard house. Kristen gets a call from Mira (Kristen Connolly), who tells her that Orson was bludgeoned to death. Kristen acts surprised, but then goes into the bathroom, clearly upset. She takes her rosary out from a drawer and places it on her hand. The cross burns her. Um, friends, I think Kristen Bouchard has a demon inside her. And now you get to hold that revelation in your heart until Evil returns next season.

The series is a psychological mystery that examines the origins of evil along the dividing line between science and religion. Katja Herbers stars as Dr. Kristen Bouchard, a forensic psychologist who investigates supernatural incidents with Catholic priest David Acosta (Mike Colter) and technology expert Ben Shakir (Aasif Mandvi). Michael Emerson, Christine Lahti, Kurt Fuller, Andrea Martin, Brooklyn Shuck, Skylar Gray, Maddy Crocco and Dalya Knapp also star.

Regardless, the delay in announcing the premiere date might also be due to the difficulties presented by the SAG-AFTRA strike. Recent indications have suggested that the series might be set for its season 4 premiere in spring 2024.

Fans will be happy to know that the production of Evil season 4 is in its final stages. The filming of the series was halted due to the writers' and actors' strike. Many cast members and the crew of the team left the production for this reason, leaving the show in limbo until the writers' and actors' strikes ended.

However, providing a glimmer of hope, the writer of the series, Robert King, took to his X (formerly known as Twitter) account and informed the fans that just one episode of season 4 is left to be filmed and that everything else is good to go.

Excitement ascends as fans are eager to see Katja Hebers return to her iconic role as Dr. Kristen Bouchard, who served as the show's main protagonist for the first three seasons and will once again play a crucial part in the next one.

The storyline of season 4 is expected to continue from the shocking conclusion of season 3, wherein Leland Townsend, Dr. Bouchard's adversary, obtained her eggs from RSM Fertility and implanted them in a different vessel.

With season 3 leaving fans on a cliffhanger, there are a range of plot points that will be addressed in the upcoming season. This includes the testing of Kristen and David's faith, which was under doubt towards the end of season 3. Ben Shakir had also been revealed to be involved in the larger picture, while Leland can also be expected to continue with his plan to keep increasing his powers.

With a range of threads to be built upon, the show seems to have enough material to last another two seasons. Of course, that is, unless the showrunners decide on an entirely new direction for the coming season.

Evil is one of the most beloved genre shows airing right now for a number of reasons, not least of which is its ability to keep viewers on their toes. Season 3 was no different in that regard, and the season finale, which dropped Sunday on Paramount+, retained the now-traditional Evil element of a last-minute twist that sets the stage for even more weirdness in the upcoming Season 4. 006ab0faaa
