The Dude is free software, no purchase is necessary. You can download The Dude from the MikroTik web page, in the download section. Under the required instruction set you will see Server package NPK file for RouterOS, and a bit lower in general section Client installation executable for The Dude client side.

The Dude client should run on pretty much all of Windows versions starting with Windows XP. Client program does not require much resources so low spec windows computers for monitoring needs will do just fine.

If I recall The current version of the Dude installs a server and client component. You would need to have the computer (your laptop) with the server component hooked up to your network witht he server running, have the firewall allow connection to the port the Dude is running on then have the Dude client on whatever computer you wanted to use as the machine you are connecting from with the client pointed at the laptop by IP or hostname. TO have it accessible fromt eh Internet liek your home you would have to use port forwarding, or IP mapping on your router to that laptop running the server.

Also You can combine it with our VPS services using the Mikrotik's CHR as VPN concentrator along with The Dude Monitoring, to take care of your VPSes or physical devices in your office, home or at client location.

Corey Lambert created a application closer script that may be ofinterest in case The Dude ever gets stuck in the service stack.(Does a stuck dude make anyone else think ofChris Farley in a little coat?)

This fall, INFLCR is highlighting our clients across college athletics, and their successes and lessons learned through empowering athletes on social over the past year. Thanks to these featured clients for not only empowering your athletes, but also being champions of the INFLCR app and platform!

Even while the previous laptop running Mikrotik The Dude server and client had critical system disk failure, it was possible to access the HDD and run ChkDsk and Defrag by using Hirens Boot CD/ USB. Hirens BootCD is a very dearly beloved tool that lets you run Win XP directly off of the CD or, in my case, a USB for the purpose of troubleshooting, recovering, etc. This bought just the right amount of time to log in one last time to the laptop and launch The Dude to Export the running configuration and database as explained in this here article.

Once I have the results of my Linq query, I am not always happy. There could be a result that I was expecting to be there but wasn't. For example, my client was expecting that a customer was in a customer list, but it wasn't. It is my client saying "Dude, where's my customer?", not me. I am the Dude, and to remain a dude, I have to give my client the reason.

It's an interesting problem, and one that I'd normally address either client side or code wise before getting to a point where and object was returned or not. But I guess the perfect solution would be to return a single solution and perhaps examine it's associations for links. The links wouldn't be too hard to find a generic "I've not got one of these" type reason, but to give a 'I've got this link, not that link' response would be harder.

We are very pleased to add you to the long list of travel agents who help their clients experience a lifetime memory by visiting an all-inclusive Colorado Dude and Guest Ranch. Mitchell submitted the project for SSOTY nomination due to the quick turnaround and stunning results for such a high-profile client. Plus, the dudes, known to be generous with their time and finances donated the old floor so that it could be repurposed into toys for children who are patients at the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children.

in src-address, add the ip range which is assigned to specific interface. this way only clients with the specific pool will be redirected to squid, rest of clients will go directly, as per default route,

If a certificate is provided to SQL Server and for some reason it is not valid or SQL cannot find the certificate in the store, then it generates a self-signed certificate to encrypt communication between the server and the client. This method ensures that the login packet is always encrypted. Whether the data communication is also encrypted depends on both the server and the client. In order for the client to force encryption, the certificate used by the server should be signed by a trusted certificate authority.

ImportantĀ

The SAN field in the SSL certificate is not examined by all SQL Server client drivers when they are validating the server certificate. Only fairly recent drivers examine the SAN when validating a certificate, like the following.

So, if the client application is using .Net 4.0, for example, and you try to rely on the SAN, the client application will not accept it. Keep this factor in mind when deciding to use SAN certificates or go with individual certificates for each machine.

This messages tells us that a server side certificate is used but the client could not validate the server side certificate. If your certificate is from a trusted authority but the client connection is failing with above error, do this

A lot of database administrators out there would have heard of SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) and the security it offers, and thus want to configure their SQL Servers to use SSL for encryption of data on the wire. Bear in mind that SSL Encryption is very different from the built-in database encryption features like TDE. SSL is used for encrypting data transmitted across the network (on the wire) between the SQL Server and a client/application. Once configured all traffic between SQL Server and a client application is encrypted which has its advantages (secure transmission) and its disadvantages (performance impact due to the encryption and extra round-trip at connection time). SSL is a powerful feature that is a given standard of most systems and will definitely feature in a list of To-Have items if any security audit or standards are enforced in your company.

SQL Server 2008 R2 and onwards support wildcard certificates. E.g., *.ABCXYZ.com could be the CN of a certificate. This means that the SQL Server Engine (Server side components) will allow you to load a wildcard certificate for SSL. There are some caveats you need to know regarding client-side issues, so please read the accepted wildcard examples HERE. 006ab0faaa
