CYP is calculated by multiplying the quantity of each method distributed to clients by a conversion factor to yield an estimate of the duration of contraceptive protection provided per unit of that method. The CYP for each method is then summed for all methods to obtain a total CYP figure. CYP conversion factors are based on how a method is used, failure rates, wastage, and how many units of the method are typically needed to provide one year of contraceptive protection for a couple. The calculation takes into account that some methods, like condoms and oral contraceptives, for example, may be used incorrectly and then discarded, or that IUDs and implants may be removed before their life span is realized.

Struggling to keep up, the couple maxed out their credit cards. Paul even took out what sounds like a payday loan. He borrowed $750 at an extremely high interest rate which compelled the couple to make $200 bi-weekly payments. Eventually, they spent $3,500 on this short-term loan alone.

Interactions among suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) neurons are required for robust circadian rhythms entrained to local time. To investigate these signaling mechanisms, we developed a functional coupling assay that uniquely captures the dynamic process by which SCN neurons interact. As a population, SCN neurons typically display synchronized rhythms with similar peak times, but will peak 6-12 hr apart after in vivo exposure to long days. Once they are removed from these conditions, SCN neurons resynchronize through a phase-dependent coupling process mediated by both vasoactive intestinal polypeptide (VIP) and GABAA signaling. Notably, GABAA signaling contributes to coupling when the SCN network is in an antiphase configuration, but opposes synchrony under steady-state conditions. Further, VIP acts together with GABAA signaling to couple the network in an antiphase configuration, but promotes synchrony under steady-state conditions by counteracting the actions of GABAA signaling. Thus, SCN neurons interact through nonredundant coupling mechanisms influenced by the state of the network.

A federal grand jury in the Eastern District of Texas returned an indictment yesterday charging a Texas couple for operating an illegal pyramid scheme that defrauded thousands of participants of more than $10 million.

Participating in an NRMP Match as a couple allows two applicants to link their rank order lists, usually for purposes of obtaining positions in the same geographic location. When applicants participate in a Match as a couple, their rank order lists form pairs of program choices that are considered by the matching algorithm. A couple will match to the most preferred pair of programs on their rank order lists where each partner has been offered a position.

Prior to the applicable Rank Order List Certification Deadline, if individuals who have coupled in a Match subsequently choose to participate in that Match as individuals, or if one partner wants to withdraw from the Match, both partners first must uncouple in the R3 system. Once uncoupled, each individual must adjust their rank order list by removing any duplicate programs and re-certifying their lists before the Rank Order List Certification Deadline.

The Tenacity of the Couple-Norm explores the ongoing strength and insidious grip of couple-normativity across changing landscapes of law, policy and everyday life in four contrasting national contexts: the UK, Bulgaria, Norway and Portugal.

The authors provide an analysis of how the couple-form is institutionalized, supported and mandated by legal regulations, social policies and everyday practices, and how this serves to shape the intimate life choices and trajectories of those who seem to be living aslant to the conventional heterosexual cohabiting couple-form. Attending also to practices and moments that challenge couple-normativity, both consciously chosen and explicit, as well as circumstantial, subconscious and implicit, The Tenacity of the Couple-Norm makes an important contribution to literatures on citizenship, intimacy, family life, and social change in sociology, social policy, socio-legal studies, gender/sexuality/queer studies and psychosocial studies.

Couple and Family Psychology is a broad and general specialty in professional psychology that is founded on a systemic epistemology, including explicit awareness of the importance of context, diversity, and developmental perspectives, to understand, assess, and treat the comprehensive issues of psychological health and pathology, including affective, cognitive, behavioral, and dynamic factors across individuals, couples, families, and larger social systems. Our specialization includes not only couple and family psychotherapy practitioners, but psychologists who apply a systemic orientation to their professional work including but not limited to teaching, supervision, consultation, research, administration, workforce development, forensic assessments, and policy development and advocacy. The crucial element of the specialty is a thorough systemic conceptualization and the application of systemic concepts to human behavior. CFP includes a body of knowledge and evidence-based interventions that require specialty competence (Stanton & Welsh, 2011). Psychologists who work primarily with children/adolescents and are unsure whether they should seek an ABPP in Couple and Family Psychology or in Clinical Child & Adolescent Psychology should review the FAQs here.

The Couple and Family Psychology specialty is delighted to incorporate the 2017 APA Multicultural Guidelines: An Ecological Approach to Context, Identity, and Intersectionality into its foundational competencies for Board certification. Chaired by one of our members, the guidelines represent a truly inclusive, systemic approach to understanding and intervening with couples, families, and larger social systems. The complete guidelines are available here.
