By themselves, THC and CBD are powerful compounds that have an amazing range of effects on the human body. But, it seems, when they work together, they could be more powerful still.
Scientists have recently described something called the “entourage effect”. The theory is that when cannabinoids like THC, CBD (and others) are consumed together, their effects are changed and amplified.
For example, a strain with high CBD content, and a small amount of THC, could offer more pain relief than a straight-CBD strain. Or a strain with balanced THC and CBD could offer a euphoric high, without the increased anxiety caused by some THC-only strains.
The entourage effect is still not well understood. With hundreds of cannabinoids, plus hundreds of other compounds in each strain, the possible interactions and effects are effectively infinite.
What we do know now is that the ratio of THC to CBD will seriously influence the effect of a strain. So let’s go deeper into those ratios you see online and at your local dispensary.
