As a group, we have found that the sports brodcasting experience is constantly changing with new ideas and updates. The pandemic has accellerated growth and change in the viewing experience and has changed the landscape for years to come. As a result, these changes have forced fans from watching more games on the couch than the bleachers for the near future. It was brought to our attention through the interviews that we conducted that a decent amount of the Gen Z population weren't handling this direction of having to watch games on television very well. As interest in watching games on television dropped and habits of sports betting rose, we thought that maybe combining the two in a new exciting way would turn this trend around. With this "new normal", we decided to amp up the sports betting experience. Sports betting is already a booming industry, but with our help we can take the industry by storm by giving the fans an all-in-one sports betting experience with insights throughout the game that makes betting on football games incredibly convenient without missing a second of the game.
Our group has spent the last five months working on this project. If we had an additional six weeks to work on this project, our logical next steps include the following: First, we plan to work with a company that specializes in building out a system to produce accurate data with artificial intelligence. Second, we plan to utilize our relationship with Caesars Entertainment and continue growing our sponsorship opportunities. Last, we plan to start preliminary discusion with DirectTV and the NFL with contract restructuring. We think these steps are realistic and will continue to help bring our idea to life.
Within the past nine months, the sports industry has taken a hit with the strains of COVID-19. Despite this blow, the industry has faced this problem head-on and found new ways to create and innovate. For example, the sports broadcast experience has implemented new ideas such as virtual fans. These new ideas and processes will continue to evolve over time. What was something a few months ago, is no longer around. In the coming months, what is current probably won't be around either. This is one of the lessons that we took from this project is that the industry is constantly changing and you have to think of how you can be ahead of where the industry is going. It's important to assess the current state and try to stay ahead of the curve so that when it is time to bring sometheing fresh and new, it can be valuable to the market.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the current state of the sports broadcasting experience, define a problem, and come up with a solution as a group. We used human centered design thinking to aid us in finding where we could make a real difference in the ever changing sports industry. Our process started by doing some initial research on the state of the sports broadcasting segment. We quickly found that this area has been rapidly changing since the outbreak of the pandemic. To better familiarize ourselves with how these changes have been effecting the viewers, we collectively interviewed over 30 people who regularly consume a sports broadcast experience. This lead to us finding new trends and observations about the market and ultimately led us to finding new insights that could be used to make create a new and fresh idea. One of the common themes that we found from our interviews was that the sports betting experience could be improved during a game. Our research and observations led to us finding that the consumers want to have a customizable betting experience that is easily navigable and provides them the most updated and accurate information to ultimately help them make informed betting decisions. This involved finding an area of sports where there was a strong foundation of sports betting. Football was the clear leader here in the United States, and the idea to partner with a organization like NFL Sunday Ticket to get our service in the eyes of the viewer was our go-to strategy.
