Insects and plants have been co-evolved for a long time, shaping a complex network in their interactions. Plant chemical defense has acted as an important selection pressure where insect herbivores have adapted by evolutionary key innovations. Understanding chemical interactions is, therefore, crucial to understand their close relationship. Our research focus is the insect-plant interactions using biochemical and molecular tools not only to understand host plant adaptation strategies of arthropod herbivores, but also to develop novel strategies for integrated pest management.
Sena Isbilir earned her PhD with research on the molecular and biochemical resistance mechanisms of soybean looper to diamide insecticides. Her hard work and dedication have led to this achievement. Congratulations to Dr. Isbilir and wishing her a bright and successful career ahead!

Lynn Wade (undergraduate) presented her DIS research project about the Hibiscus sawfly in the Spring Undergraduate Research Symposium, held in the MSU main campus. It was the first time for her to make a research presentation in public.

It is my great honor to contribute to edit this special issue of the Korean Journal of Applied Entomology in memory of the late Prof. Kyung Saeng Boo, who was a pioneer of insect physiology and chemical ecology in Korea.
