Choose a Text Twist mode
As soon as you open the game, you'll see the game menu. On the game menu, you'll find different game modes to choose from. These are Untimed, Timed, Word of the Day, Lightning, and Crossword/Letter Mania. Given those choices, just click on which game mode you'd like to play, and then a new game will start.
You'll also find the Settings, How to Play, High Scores, Trophies, and the Quit buttons at the bottom of the game menu. We already know for a fact that Text Twist 2 is the second installment of the TextTwist series. Although the first installment is a good game, the second one has seen great improvements. Despite its setbacks, its popularity streak continues in the word game category, even a decade after its release. Now let's compare and see how TextTwist 2 differs from the original one.
New TextTwist Game Modes
In the original game, you can only play two game modes – Timed and the Untimed version. Based on the names of the modes alone, the Timed mode is where you will be given 2 minutes and 30 seconds to figure out a bunch of words so you can advance to the next round. For the Untimed mode, it's the opposite way around as you have the luxury of time to figure out all the words that can be formed using the given six or seven letters.
In the second installment, there are three new game modes for you to try – Word of the Day, Lightning mode, and the Letter Mania/Crossword. And these modes are simply exciting and challenging for every text twist solver. Each mode has different rules, but they all similarly have the same concept – to find the right word/letter combinations. Additionally, if we're going to relate it to the original one, the Word of the Day mode is much like the Untimed mode, while the Lightning and Crossword modes are both derived from the original Timed Mode.
Free Round Skips
This feature is definitely what most TextTwist players love, especially if it takes too long for them to figure out the word, and they are pressured by time. Back in the original game, you will have to solve the longest word first (a six or seven-letter word) before you get to advance to the next round. Now, that could get frustrating - especially if you have been stuck on that level for so long.
However, in the second installment, players are now given free round skips. These can be used whenever you just want to advance to the next round without guessing the longest word. But keep in mind that these skips are limited. So these should be used wisely.
New and Improved Game Graphics
Comparing the graphics between the two, Text Twist 2 looks better. They look more vibrant and interactive, especially the colors of the game and the illustrations as well. This makes it more entertaining and visually appealing.
Conclusion
If we were to choose between both games, we would go for the second installment. This is because it has more interesting game modes that are quite challenging at the same time. However, this all boils down to your preference.
There's nothing wrong with the first installment either. It can still offer a challenging wordplay experience - much like TextTwist 2 can. Overall, the TextTwist series is still highly recommended to play, whether you want to play it in your free time or if you simply want to have fun.
