Privacy Policy for Texas Transit
Last Updated: June 4, 2026
This Privacy Policy governs the use of the mobile application TexTransit ("the App"). The App is built as a mapless, high-efficiency local transit tracking utility for public transportation services in Texas.
Our core philosophy is simple: We believe your location and transit habits are your own business. The App is intentionally engineered to operate without collecting, storing, or transmitting any of your personal information.
1. Information Collection and Use
No Personal Data Collection: The App does not collect, request, or require any personally identifiable information (PII) such as your name, email address, phone number, device identifiers, or contact lists.
No Location Tracking: Unlike traditional transit apps, TexTransit does not track or store your background or precise GPS location history.
No Accounts Required: You can use 100% of the App’s features anonymously without creating an account or logging in.
2. Data Storage and Local Device Cache
Local Processing Only: Any configuration data you change inside the app—such as your selected default city or your list of "Favorite" transit routes—is stored locally on your own physical device using sandboxed storage.
No Cloud Storage: We do not operate external database servers that collect user profiles or configuration layouts.
3. Public and Open-Source Data Feeds
GTFS Data Consumption: The App functions purely by displaying open-source, public transit schedules and real-time tracking streams. This includes GTFS (General Transit Feed Specification) and GTFS-RT (Realtime) endpoints provided directly by public Texas municipal transit authorities (such as Austin CapMetro, Houston METRO, and Dallas DART).
No Commercial Data Brokers: All transit schedule information parsed by the App is sourced directly from these open developer portals and contains no commercial tracking scripts or third-party behavioral analytics.
4. Third-Party Services
Because the App does not use integrated tracking maps (such as Google Maps or Mapbox APIs), it does not load heavy external SDKs that silently collect your IP address or hardware analytics. The App is a self-contained data reader.
5. Compliance with Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA)
Because we strictly do not collect any personal data from anyone, the App is entirely compliant with COPPA and does not gather information from children under the age of 13.
6. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect modifications in how the open-source transit feeds are structured. However, our stance on zero data collection will remain unchanged. You are advised to review this page periodically for any changes.
7. Contact Us
If you have any questions or suggestions regarding this privacy-first architecture, do not hesitate to contact the developer directly through our official GitHub repository or app store support portal.
