The player with the best five-card poker hand wins the pot. In the event of identical hands, the pot will be equally divided between the players with the best hands.

Edit It seems like I am getting different responses on how the game actual works, and after reading the official rules, and talking to numerous poker buddies, I guess I don't know the rules myself. Any clarification would be appreciated.

I am working on a little poker game in MSVC++ 2010 Express, and have been stuck trying to come up with a way to code the sub pot system. Is there a reasonable way to play Texas holdem in such a way that the game has a time limit? A way you can say "the game ends at 10pm" and then determine the winner/distribute the winnings in a fair way?

Some friends and I like to have a fortnightly poker game. Mainly as an excuse to get us all together as we are busy and don't get as much chance to catch up these days. Sometimes just getting us together is hard enough and because we play on a weeknight, some people become reluctant to commit setting aside a night to play because the games can drag on for hours.

As i am coding a poker game at the moment, i am facing with the problem of a new player joining or rejoining a hand already in progress. That being said i have drawn an image to better illustrate what i'm asking for.

After reading Jon's answer and a bit of testing on pokerstars play money i realized that i have overcomplicated things in my previous cases. The only difference between a new player at the table and a returning one is that the latter might have missed some blinds while being away. With this in mind i think there are only three cases in total.

In some home games, the person with the dealer button will actually deal the hand. This allows for every player to take turns managing the poker dealer responsibilities. In most games, however, the dealer button is simply the marker. It keeps the action moving, as it moves one player to the left after each hand.

The problem with Texas Holdem poker is that it isn't played against the house, but against other players. I therefore doubt if we will ever see it, and that's the reason why three-card poker is in the game instead (because it is played against the house [Rockstar]).

To clarify further. In Texas Holdem, the dealer does just that: deals the cards and nothing more. There is no house edge or a way for Rockstar to siphon off a little bit of our money, which is the case in three-card poker (the aforementioned house edge).

It would just be very deflating if we can't play this version of poker vs our friends or random players, because it would add to the social atmosphere in a huge way. Going head to head vs each other instead of against the house.

I would totally love Texas holdem poker. I don't play it IRL because I'm too sensible, but it would be an awesome game for GTAO, deciding to fold after a crappy first two cards, or gradually betting through until the turn and river.

If it ends up where there is a flood of morons who don't know how to play Hold 'em and constantly raise and push all-in... I am fine without it. Half the reason I stopped playing poker in RDO is because of these cancerous players. It is one thing to do it occasionally (especially when you actually know how to play), but thede asshats...

Like most variants there's Limit, Pot Limit and No Limit variants. RDRO sounds like limit. If you could bet up to the total in the pot, Pot Limit. No Limit Hold'em (NLHE) is the "cadillac of poker" and is what is played in the World Series main event.

My opinion - they can add it later, because there is too many roulette in casino (for comparison, two of the four tables in high limit room are roulette).

Or, they added three-card poker instead classic Texas holdem because of legislation of some countries.

In Russia, for example, it may be considered as an Internet Casino, which is illegal, but why they think that all these slot machines, roulettes and blackjack won't be considered as Internet Casino... ff782bc1db
