Tetralism: A Comprehensive and Practical Life Philosophy
Introduction
Reality consists of four dimensions: three spatial and one temporal. These dimensions are interdependent, as the passage of time creates change in space, and change in space creates the passage of time. We can model this relationship geometrically with a tetrahedral figure, where each point represents a dimension, and the connections between them represent their interdependence. However, to fully understand existence, we must acknowledge the two distinct "tetral" (meaning 'four-fold') universes: the noumenon - the physical universe composed of atoms and their interactions, and the phenomenon - the mental universe perceiving the physical one created with the firing of neurons in conscious beings.
Interdependence of Noumenon and Phenomenon
The noumenon's true state of being is limited to the present moment. In contrast, any existence in the past or future depends on perception by conscious beings. The phenomenon consists of both consciousness - which exists only in the present moment, and metaconsciousness - which encompasses awareness of the past and the future. The interdependence of the noumenon and phenomenon implies that our perception of the physical universe shapes our experience of reality, and in turn, the physical universe shapes our perception.
Dimensions of Consciousness
Consciousness allows us to interact with the space around us and navigate through time in our minds. The phenomenon's spatial dimensions include the imagined, the abstract, and the concrete; while the temporal dimension, known as the ideal, is metaconscious by nature. These dimensions are defined as follows:
The Abstract: ideas that describe reality and stories, consisting of perception, thoughts, and judgment
The Imagined: stories based on reality and ideas, consisting of sensations, feelings, and emotions
The Concrete: stories and ideas becoming real, consisting of action, behavior, and creation
The Ideal: controlling the imagined, the abstract, and the concrete, consisting of goals, values, and beliefs
Human Agency and Determinism
Though the noumenal universe's future is predetermined as a singular, non-temporal event, phenomenal determinism does not negate human agency. By acknowledging the interdependence of the noumenon and phenomenon, we recognize that our choices and actions can shape our destiny within the predetermined physical universe. Interpreting the past faithfully and shaping the future ideally allows us to fulfill our purpose as a species.
Three Universal Ideals
To maximize human well-being, our destiny should align with the purpose of consciousness. We propose three universal ideals derived from Tetral interdependence:
Accurate Perception (phenomenon dependent on noumenon) - Your consciousness should accurately reflect reality, requiring openness to updating your worldview based on new evidence, experiences, and reasoning.
Flexible Interpretation (metaconscious dependent on conscious) - You must be open to interpreting the past and changing the future in favorable ways, allowing your present self to control past and future interpretations.
Ideal Ideals (metaconscious dependent on noumenon) - Constantly question and refine your ideals, only committing to them once you know they align with the first two ideals.
The Tetral Standards, based on the ideal functioning of the phenomenon
Wisdom: The ability to discern between the imagined, the abstract, the concrete, and the ideal dimensions of consciousness. Wisdom enables you to make informed decisions, learn from past experiences, and shape your future based on a balanced understanding of these dimensions.
Compassion: Understanding and empathizing with others' experiences, beliefs, and feelings, fostering deeper connections and cooperation in achieving collective goals. Practicing self-compassion and self-understanding.
Courage: The willingness to face challenges and uncertainties while pursuing your ideals. Courage helps you overcome fear and adversity in the pursuit of personal and collective growth.
Integrity: Staying true to your ideals and maintaining consistency between your beliefs, thoughts, and actions. Integrity ensures that you uphold the values of Tetralism and contribute positively to the world around you
In conclusion, Tetralism is a comprehensive and practical life philosophy that recognizes the interdependence of reality and consciousness. By understanding and embracing this philosophy, you can develop a more profound awareness of your place in the universe, make better decisions, and lead a more fulfilling and meaningful life.Â
