How Testosterone Affects Muscle Strength
When you hear the term testosterone, it conjures up images of muscle building and sportsmen wanting to build massive muscles. However, there is much more to testosterone than meets the eye. As well, testosterone has been shown to reduce the rates at which muscle fibers break down, leading to a higher rate of structural complexity in those muscles.
So how does testosterone play into all of this? It seems that testosterone provides the hormonal environment required for an exercise program to be successful. Of course, the exercise will only be effective if it is designed around a target structure. But testosterone can also have an indirect effect. Because testosterone directly affects muscle size, those exercises that feature high repetition or high load can actually make it easier for the body to increase its muscle size without increasing exercise intensity. So in a way, we can think of testosterone administration as an indirect method for increasing muscle strength.
