Power Quality Issues in Electric Grid and Mitigation Techniques

A TEQIP III Symposium to be Held on 19th Nov., 2018 at IIT Guwahati

The deadline for form submission is now extended to 25th October 2018.

Objective of the Proposed Event

The power quality improvement is an important issue under constant research for last few years. Understanding the current problems and scope of research is important for contributing more towards this area. Active power filters are identified as a solution but still the practical application of these devices are not largely common in the Indian distribution grid. Cost of these devices are one major reason for the lesser application. Therefore, more and more functionalities need to be integrated to these devices for optimal utilization. New and improved control algorithms are inevitable to provide these capabilities. These enhanced solutions can impact both on consumer and utility because improved power quality decreases the de-rating of devices such as utility transformers, decreases losses, and improves the life of consumer equipment.

Grid integration and stability issues are another area which need to be addressed. Introduction to power quality and mitigation techniques will be useful for new researchers to understand the problem and introduction to current issues on stability will be useful for the researchers who are currently working on power quality. This will help power engineers to concentrate on the research of grid integration problems with APFs. The objective of this workshop is to provide an overview on these topics from power electronic converter level to the application level. This will help researchers to focus more on the current practical issues and come up with a solution to problems. The experimental demonstration will help in developing similar experimental prototype in more laboratories and this will be useful for industry and academia.
