Hello there!
I am an academic migrant and a political philosopher. I'm primarily interested in defiance, and my research focuses on illegal activism (such as civil and uncivil disobedience) and the honouring of wrongdoers (especially through commemorative practices). I'm also interested in democracy, hate speech, political philosophy of language, and applied ethics. I work for the University of Stirling as a Lecturer (roughly equivalent to an Assistant Professor) and teach into the St Andrews and Stirling Graduate Programme. I was the winner of the AAP Prize for Innovation in Inclusive Curricula 2020.
I have published in the Oxford Studies in Political Philosophy, Ergo, the European Journal of Philosophy, the Australasian Journal of Philosophy, the Journal of the APA (co-authored), the Philosophy Compass (co-authored), the Journal of Ethics, Analysis, Philosophy and Phenomenological Research (co-authored), and the Journal of Moral Philosophy (co-authored). Recently, I read a bit about AI deskilling, and went on to publish a paper on AI emotional deskilling in Philosophy and Technology (co-authored). You can find an overview of my research, information about my teaching, my CV, and my contact details, at the links above.
My friends call me "Ten," short for "Ten-Herng." You may choose whichever you like.Â
If you work on disobedience, social movements, commemorations, expressive harm, political authority, or any related topics, I would be more than happy to read your drafts and/or exchange papers. I also enjoy complaining about AI's impact on universities.
My country of origin is Taiwan, not China. They are two rather distinct countries. May they stay that way, forever.
