Telstra formerly known as BigPond founded in 1996. It is an Australian Telecom Company. It provides services like accessing your all emails under one roof. A one stop shop for your emails kind of thing.
You are given two options for setting up of your Telstra email on your system. All is required is to have Microsoft Outlook for the procedure to start.
1.Automatic setup
2.Manual setup
Before starting to setup your email, make sure you have the latest version of Microsoft Outlook installed on your system. If not install it from heading to Microsoft website.
1.Open Outlook.
2.It is preferred to create a new profile before setting up the Mail. If this is the first time you are dealing with the Outlook then profile creation is the foremost step.
3.Give the name of your profile and press OK.
4.Make sure that “Email Account” has been selected. Here you type your name, Email Address, Password, you are asked to retype the Password for conformation.
5.Click on next and leave the rest to Outlook, It will automatically set your Email with compatible settings all by itself.
6.Click on Finish to complete the set up and enjoy mailing.
This will also help when you face any issues in setting up your email the automatic way.
1.All the process is same till step 3.
2.Now instead of selecting the “Email Account” option, you are required to select the other option which is “Manual setup or Additional server types” option and click Next.
3.Select “POP or IMAP” option from the next screen and hit Next.
4.Enter your name and email address.
5.Here you will be required to enter the following details:
a.In the field of Incoming mail server enter “imap.telstra.com”
b.In the field of Outgoing mail server enter “smpt.telstra.com”
6.Enter you Telstra email add as your “User Name” and re-enter your email’s password.
7.Do not check the option of “Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)”.
8.Click on to “More Settings”.
9.Another pop up will appear. Head to the “Outgoing Server” tab.
10.Tick on the “My Outgoing Server (SMTP) requires authentication”
11.Under this select “use same settings as my incoming mail server”. Rest remain unchanged.
12.Under advanced tab change the following:
a. Set incoming server port to 993.
b. Use SSL encryption in Encrypted Connection for incoming mail.
c.Set Port of Outgoing mail to 465.
d.Use TLS under Encrypted Connection for outgoing mail.
e.Don’t change anything else.
13.Click ok and Select Next.
14.Not Outlook with recalibrate with the information provided and set up the account.
15.Once completed Click on close and click Finish to exit the setup.
