Toothbrushing is important to remove plaque bacteria and food debris from your teeth
Toothbrushing will help maintain a clean healthy smile
Brush your teeth twice a day for 2 minutes
Hoe to use an Oral B electric toothbrush
1. Brush for 2 minutes
Use a watch and time yourself to ensure you brush for a full 2 minutes. Do this a few times until you get a good idea of how long 2 minutes is. Aim to spend 30 seconds in each quadrant of your mouth.
2. Brush twice a day
Research has shown that plaque bacteria build up on your teeth throughout the day. Only brushing once per day (or less) increases your risk of tooth decay and gum problems. The most important time to brush your teeth is just before bed, so you may remove all the plaque bacteria and food debris that has accumulated on and between your teeth throughout the day.
3. Brush each tooth individually
Don't try to brush multiple teeth at the same time. Brush each tooth individually, spending a couple of seconds on each tooth surface.
4. Angle your toothbrush correctly
When brushing your teeth, angle your toothbrush into your gums, as plaque often builds up at the tooth-gum interface.
5. Don't worry if your gums bleed
Bleeding gums is a sign of gingivitis (gum disease). You should actually brush bleeding gums MORE, not less, as the area is inflamed due to plaque build up. If bleeding persists - see your dentist.
6. Use a toothpaste containing fluoride
Fluoride helps to strengthen your teeth and combat tooth decay.
7. Spit, don't rinse
After brushing your teeth, you want to keep fluoride on your teeth, so don't rinse it off with water.
