Anxiety is an emotion characterized by feelings of uneasiness, nervousness, and even physical changes like increased heart rate and blood pressure. Nevertheless, it is important to note the key difference between normal anxiety and an anxiety disorder. An anxiety disorder develops when this feeling of anxiety becomes excessive and continuous. It can emerge in any individual regardless of age, background, or gender, and has become the most common mental illness in the United States. Anxiety disorders are treatable and some effective strategies consist of psychotherapy, medication, or relaxation techniques.
Anxiety affects people worldwide and it influences multiple parts of their daily life. It can interfere with work, relationships, and even driving. Although every person is impacted differently both emotionally and physically, it is critical to be considerate to those who may be struggling. Anxiety can alter simple everyday tasks into burdensome challenges, and ultimately limit one's ability to live a comfortable life. This common condition goes beyond personal difficulty and demonstrates why awareness about anxiety disorders should be raised.
There are many symptoms of anxiety. Mentally, people could experience constant worry, racing thoughts, overthiking, and have trouble concentrating. Some ways to manage these symptoms are washing your face with cold water and breathing exercises such as box breathing. As for the common physical symptoms of anxiety, they often appear when the body enters a state of stress. Symptoms include rapid heartbeat, chest tightness, nausea, sweating, and restlessness. To manage this symptoms, the most effective approach is to focus on calming the body. Breathing is also extremely helpful in these cases as it steadies the heart and lowers stress levels. Practicing grounding techniques such as what you can see, hear, and feel can help bring your attention to the present.
This is our mission: We are a team of passionate teens dedicated to promoting science education in our community. Through volunteering events and programs, we hope to spread knowledge of important topics such as physics, health, and so much more. We aim to share our passions for science while educating those around us, building a better, more scientific future!
Anxiety connects to our mission because it is an important topic in both science and health education. Understanding anxiety helps people recognize how the brain and body responds to stress. By sharing accurate information, we can help reduce misconceptions and encourage healthier ways to manage anxiety. This topic is especially relevant to our community as many students experience stress in academic settings. Educating others about anxiety helps us build a more informed community.
