Artificial Intelligence (AI) refers to computer systems designed to perform tasks that normally require human intelligence. These tasks include recognizing images, understanding language, making decisions, and identifying patterns in large amounts of data. AI systems are typically built using algorithms, which are sets of instructions that allow computers to process information and learn from it. A common approach is machine learning, where models improve their performance by analyzing data rather than following only pre-programmed rules. More advanced forms, such as neural networks, are loosely inspired by how neurons in the human brain process signals. By analyzing massive datasets and adjusting internal parameters, these systems can learn to recognize speech, recommend videos, detect diseases in medical scans, or even generate text and images.
Artificial Intelligence is already integrated into many aspects of everyday life. Voice assistants, recommendation systems on streaming platforms, and smartphone facial recognition all rely on AI technologies. In healthcare, AI models help doctors detect conditions such as cancer earlier by analyzing medical images and patient data. In transportation, AI plays a role in navigation systems, traffic prediction, and the development of autonomous vehicles. Businesses use AI to analyze consumer behavior, automate customer service through chatbots, and improve supply chain efficiency. As computing power and data availability continue to grow, AI is expanding into new industries including finance, agriculture, education, and scientific research.
One new innovation that uses AI is autonomous vehicles. Autonomous vehicles are vehicles that can navigate and operate with little to no human intervention. It can use sensors such as cameras and radars, navigate using GPA, and make driving decisions by detecting its surroundings using AI. There are 5 levels of automations. Levels 1 and 2 require the driver to remain fully engaged, as the AI only assists with specific tasks like steering or braking. However, from Level 3 and above, the vehicle begins to take over the primary monitoring of the environment, eventually reaching Level 5 where a steering wheel isn't even necessary.
Artificial Intelligence is constantly developing and reveals how science requires persistence to further progress. It has already begun to alter individuals lives and is being implemented in machines and more. We want communities with passion for science to learn the important aspect of determination and the role it plays. Determination is what transforms ideas into realities and artificial intelligence is one example that presents individuals with the capacity of science.
