Welcome to my personal research page!

I am the George and Cynthia Mitchell Professor in Sustainable Development and I am a Rice Scholar at the Center for Energy Studies, part of the Baker Institute for Public Policy at Rice University. I previously served as Magister of Martel College and currently serve as the Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Economics.

I conduct interdisciplinary research that uses mathematical modeling to guide science-based policy. My work focuses on enhancing system resilience and mitigating risks arising from global threats, including infectious diseases and climate change. I also investigate some of the many connections between economics and ecology.

I am a faculty member of the Rice360 Institute for Global Health Technologies, a member of the Lancet-PPATS Commission on Prevention of Viral Spillover, and a member of the Ecological-Epidemiological-Economic (E3E) International Research Network, sponsored by the CNRS.
