Hi, I'm Hawra (pronounced how-ra)!
I'm a Postdoctoral Researcher, at the College of Information, University of Maryland, College Park. My research sits at the intersection of social justice and technology, where I use design research methods to understand the world and imagine more equitable futures.
As a feminist scholar and design researcher, I study how emerging technologies shape, and are shaped by, complex social issues. I focus on addressing harm and its root causes through individual, community, and structural interventions, always centering the voices of minoritized communities. My goal is to design supportive structures where people can not only participate but truly thrive.
Beyond research, I love the outdoors, travel, photography, reading, and learning from the stories of others.
