For this experience, I explored baking as a creative activity by attempting to make matcha tiramisu, a dessert that blends Japanese matcha with Italian tiramisu. Since I never baked before so this is an opportunity for me to step out of my comfort zone and try something new. I chose matcha tiramisu because I love matcha, and also the recipe is kind of easy and requires no baking. This activity allowed me to learn new techniques, work through a structured process, and express creativity through flavor and presentation.
Making matcha tiramisu was a fun and rewarding experience, it turned out better than I expected, especially since this was my first time baking. The process of making it challenged me to follow detailed instructions and problem-solve along the way.
One of the challenges I faced was separating the egg yolks. Since I had never done this before, it took me a few tries to get it right, and I have learned the importance of patience in baking. Another challenge that arises is when reheating the egg mixture, I accidentally overheated it a bit, causing parts of it to cook a bit. However, I quickly adapted by using the mesh strainer to remove the cooked bits and was able to salvage the mixture. This problem-solving moment taught me that baking requires flexibility and quick thinking.
The rest of the process went quite smoothly. Seeing the dessert come together and taste so good was incredibly satisfying. This experience not only helped me develop practical baking skills but also boosted my confidence in trying new things and troubleshooting when unexpected issues arise.
I’m proud of the final result and excited to continue exploring baking as a creative activity that I can do for fun during break.
