Tech Women in HPC
Tech Women in High Performance Computing
Activity Description:
A group of people working in the High Performance Computing Center at Texas Tech University decided to start a new group to support Women in HPC at TTU. The main goal of this program is having more women involved in HPC community in the future by encouraging them and teaching them how to get involved in this environment. The program is going to help students specially girls in the university and high school to learn about HPC community. "Tech Women in HPC" will share with area young women its goals, mission, the job opportunities, and required skills to get ready to pursue a career in such environment.
Goals:
1- Increasing the visibility of women in HPC (in both practical and research fields).
2- Providing training opportunities. There are some professional techniques, skills, and technologies you need to be familiar with to be able to get involved in HPC community. We are going to provide some long training and short training sessions, and workshops for students from different levels to learn those skills.
3- Establishing a professional friendly network between students and successful women in HPC community. Being in touch with the experts, using their experience, and getting some career advice from them will encourage girls and help them to learn better, become prepared, and get strong.
4- Providing some research opportunities. HPCC is currently involved in several research projects about HPC and cloud environment. We are going to provide some research opportunities for some of the eager girls, by selecting and involving them in the current research projects of HPCC.
