Activity and Directions
Students can create their wind catchers using a collection of fallen leaves and string. They can then observe how leaves of different sizes and shapes respond differently to the wind. Students will understand basic aerodynamics and appreciate the varied designs of nature, sparking curiosity about why leaves are shaped the way they are. Punch a hole in the leaf (close to the vein), tie a string through the hole, and attach it to the wooden dowel. Repeat the process to create a variety of leaves to watch spin in the wind.Â
